Bongo Plankton Net
The Bongo Plankton Net comprises two plankton nets with different meshes fitted
side-by-side so that you can collect two sizes of plankton in the same trawl. The Bongo
Net has a marine grade stainless steel frame and carries two nets; each of which have an
aperture of 300mm and are 2480mm in length. The standard mesh sizes of the nets are
53μm and 250μm. Each is supplied with a Quick Release Bag filter constructed from the
same mesh as the net (please contact us if you would like different mesh sizes for the
filters or nets).
The cod ends are held apart using a 350mm stainless steel rod. Each cod end has a
diameter of 110mm. The Bongo Net is towed via five 620mm stainless steel cables that
come together in a coupling ring for the attachment of your own tow rope or cable.
The recommended towing speed is 2–4 knots and we strongly recommend the use of a
Depressor Vane (page 12) to stabilise the Bongo Net whilst it is towed.
